A NEW peace garden incorporating a memorial to the fallen will be opened in Saltash later on Sunday (November 22).
The garden has been provided by Saltash Town Council and the memorial commemorates both the First and Second World Wars as well as being dedicated to all those from the town who lost their lives in war and conflict.
A flock of doves will be released as a symbol of peace when the garden, situated on Alexandra Green close to the Guildhall and St Nicholas and St Faith Church, is opened by Barry Brooking.
Mr Brooking has been chosen as a representative of the families of Saltash who have lost relatives in conflict. He served in the Royal Navy and Royal Marines, and completed three operational tours of duty in Northern Ireland between 1969 and 1972. He is the grandson of Francis Brooking, one of the six Saltash firemen killed in the blitz in Plymouth in 1941 during the Second World War.
