A new modern construction skills centre at the Moorland Trading Estate, as part of Cornwall College, Saltash, was officially opened on Tuesday morning by Murdo Mace, the managing director of Midas Construction Ltd, who cut the ribbon at the door of the building. Steve Warnes, head of Cornwall College, said the new centre in Enterprise Park forms part of the college's £2,5m investment program to provide the people of South East Cornwall with access to first class training facilities. The new centre will offer plumbing, electrical installation, trowel trades (bricklaying) and specialist gas assessment courses, either as apprenticeships, full-time qualifications or short courses, as well as a general construction skills introductory diploma. Mr Mace said that this was a fantastic industry introducing many students: 'Good tradesmen will always be needed and will never be short of work,' he added. Steve Warnes welcomed the mayor of Saltash, Cllr Bob Austin and Saltash town Cllrs, Peter Stephens, Derek Holley and Colin Riches, who went on a tour of the complex with Richard Powell, head of construction. Also attending the ceremony were members of the college staff and students on the course.
