DAVID Carter was chosen as the new mayor for Saltash at last Thursday's Town Council meeting. Mr Carter, who has been deputy mayor of Saltash for the past year, has been on Saltash Town Council and Caradon District Council for two years. David, 36, has lived in Saltash for 16 years and is married to Helen with five children. He was born at Landrake and attended Robert Jeffrey School and is now employed as Chief Executive of the charity Learning Plus. David is a member of the Saltash Festive Lights Committee, and is a football coach for Saltash United under 11s. He will begin his mayoral year with Helen as mayoress, in May 2005. Deputy mayor is Geoffrey Ellison (known locally as Joe). Mr Ellison, who is 61, was born at Oswaldtwistle, Lancashire. He has been on the Town Council for two years and is employed as a Marketing Academic for Plymouth University. Mr Ellison's wife, Clare, will be deputy mayoress.
