LOOE'S problems with traffic and parking now have a significant chance of improving, as the result of a meeting between town councillors with Cornwall County Council's Steve Ewing (Divisional Surveyor) on Thursday.

The Mayor, Ron Overd, together with Deputy Mayor Wally Scarah, councillors Frank Wright and Don Webb (also chairman ELTT) and County Councillor Sid Gardner, were involved in a 'Looe walkabout' during which a comprehensive look was taken at several trouble spots.

These included the dangerous junction from Downs Road leading on to the Polperro Road, the new traffic calming measures in the Barbican area, and the overhanging greenery on the narrow Hannafore approach road, making it even more dangerous for pedestrians.

This situation has already been rectified and the shrubbery cleared reports the mayor.

The county has now asked the Town Council to formulate an acceptable plan for Looe on traffic regulations, taxi ranks and car parking, suggesting they meet with the other agencies also controlling car parks in the town.

'It is up to the council to come up with comprehensive, sensible ideas for Looe, from which Cornwall Council will be able to make a proper Traffic Regulation Order' said the Mayor.

He will present a report from the meeting with Mr Ewing at the full town council meeting which is to be held on Monday next, October 2, when it is hoped a plan will be formulated which can be in place well before next year's holiday season.
