Global movies and locally made films will share screen time at a new film festival to be launched this weekend.

The Forgotten Corner Film Festival on the Rame Peninsula has the environment at its heart and it is being staged by the Rame Peninsula Beach Care Group (RPBC).

Highlights of the weekend’s programme include The Age of Stupid, starring Pete Postlethwaite. The film looks back from the year 2055 and asks why the human race didn’t do something about climate change when it had the chance.

Artistic work made in Cornwall will give insights into some local treasures: Wild Cornwall - Out on the Edge is former BBC wildlife camera man Ian McCarthy’s film about the incredible wildlife dramas played out right here on our coasts. Meanwhile Gypsea Stories is a film about local sailor Nick Skeates, who has sailed the world on his handmade wooden boat and does everything the ‘old-school way’.

The festival is looking to entertain and inspire as it explores themes such as environmental activism, pollution, and climate change.

Claire Wallerstein, of RPBC, said: ‘We all know that we’re facing some serious and pretty frightening environmental challenges in the world today. But this festival is not about doom and gloom and feeling powerless to change anything. We want to remind people of how much there still is in the world to protect and celebrate, and to give ourselves the inspiration we need to get up and be a part of the change our planet so desperately needs right now.’
