THERE was a double celebration in Polruan on Good Friday when a new ferry joined the fleet and a purpose- built chandlery was declared open. C Toms and Son, which owns the Polruan Ferry and the Bodinnick car ferry, called on Pat Moore, chairman of Lanteglos Parish Council, to officially name the ferry the Three Cousins in honour of the three grandchildren of Allen Toms, the company's managing director. C Toms and Son has been based at Polruan for 92 years. The firm is building two fishing boats for Cornish customers with another boat on the order books, and is always busy with repair and maintenance works. The new chandlery, designed by AHT Design and built by Celtic Construction, both of Widegates, was opened by long-serving staff member Lynne Wilson and is part of the company's plan to provide more services to the leisure marine sector and visitors to Polruan and Fowey. Mr Toms spoke of the company's commitment to Polruan. 'This new building is an opportunity for us to service the needs of both local residents and visiting yacht owners, and is part of our continued commitment to Polruan and the surrounding area.' he said.
