DID you hear the one about the new comedy club?

Well, two people walked into a football club - one a Liskeard cafe proprietor and the other the chairman of the club itself.

To see how the punchline works out, you’ll have to go to ‘Dobfools’, the second instalment of a new comedy club being held at Dobwalls Football Club on December 9.

Making their debuts will be Lee Edwards, who runs Olive and Co cafe in Liskeard, and Dobwalls FC chair Matt Thornhill, who’s planning what to do with the £5 he was bet that he wouldn’t dare do stand-up comedy.

Heading the bill is well-known comedian Dave Thompson - whose other claim to fame is that he was the man inside the Tinky Winky suit in children’s TV favourite Teletubbies.

Graham Wilkes, Mel Drew and Ems Coombes will also be performing and MC will be Kerry Cassidy, who founded the club with Matt.

Lee and Matt both took part in a stand-up workshop organised by the club.

‘I’m a bit scared,’ said Lee, ‘but I get plenty of material from working in the cafe - though all identities will of course be protected.’

‘I was bet £5 I couldn’t do stand-up,’ said Matt. ‘We’ll find out on December 9.’

The event raises funds for Dobwalls Football Club - the first comedy night was a sell-out and raised £1,000.
