THE people of Looe are to be given another chance to have their say on the Tesco plan to build a store in the town.
The retail giant, which now has a full application before Cornwall Council, held a public exhibition on its proposals in February that was viewed by 600 people, 80 per cent of whom were in favour.
However, Looe Town Council is to hold a public consultation evening at the Community Academy to which all residents are invited on Tuesday, September 18, at 7pm. The full plans will be on display.
During the last two weeks, the town's Cornwall councillors, Armand Toms and Edwina Hannaford have been organising a leaflet drop to all householders asking for their views on the Tesco plan, the outcome of which they have pledged will be taken back to the town council and to Cornwall Council.
There are two questions which are: 'Do you want a supermarket in Looe?' and 'Where do you think is the best place for a supermarket Barbican Road/other?'
Meanwhile, local businessman and landowner Phil Gibson says he has been assured that Hawks Meadow Properties is still willing to develop on The Millpool site at Polean.
'They are offering a less controversial site with a different supermarket,' he said.
'It will not affect the car park and the developers are already aware that access to the site will have to be improved, which means that coaches will start coming to Looe again, which would be good news for local businesses as well.'
The Tesco proposal for Barbican Road is for a store with a 25,000 sq ft sales area, plus petrol filling station and 36 affordable houses.
