A CIRCUS has vowed never to return to Callington after vandals slashed tyres and urinated on their caravans. Members of Paulo's Circus were left angry and upset after a spate of vandalism hit their circus, at the Saltash Recreational Park in Callington, for the second year running. They woke up on Saturday morning to find hundreds of pounds worth of damage, including four slashed tyres. Abuse The incident followed a night during which the circus suffered abuse and eight police officers were called into the town to confiscate a large amount of alcohol from a group of rowdy teenagers. 'I will be happy if I never set foot in that town again.' said the ringmaster, Paul Carpenter. 'I'm absolutely steaming and I think it is disgusting that these youths are allowed to get away with such behaviour. We work very hard and we don't go out looking for trouble. 'All we do is put on live entertainment and involve the local community and I feel they have thrown it back in our faces. 'We had to draw up rotas to patrol the ground on the Saturday night but even those who were in the caravans were listening out. Hardly any of us slept for the three days. It has been very stressful.' The vandalism has also annoyed councillors who are disappointed the circus had taken the decision not to return. l A group of local dancers entertained the audience as they took part in the circus show. Members of the Orchard Dance Studios in Gunnislake near Callington, were asked to perform with Paulo's travelling circus on Saturday in two performances and Caroline Chapman, the leader of the group, was delighted with the performance. The group of 50, pictured above, had a wide age range of people taking part, with the youngest being four and the oldest 74. Simon Larkins
