The Royal Navy Raiders Parachute display team, a Wildcat helicopter and the chance to see a new portrait of a naval heroine are among the attractions at this year’s HMS Raleigh Open Day.
The training base in Torpoint will be opening its gates between noon and 5 pm on Wednesday, August 1, with an invitation for members of the public to go along for a free family afternoon out.
Visitors will be able to sit in the cockpit of the helicopter and take a close-up look at a Royal Navy Pacific 24 rigid inflatable boat. They can also visit the Royal Navy Submarine School to see how sailors are trained to operate beneath the waves.
See Friday’s Cornish Times for more details.
