A LARGE audience gathered at Callington Methodist Church recently for a charity variety concert. The Rev Howard Curnow welcomed David England and friends from Okehampton and Tavistock. David sang songs from the shows and from the 1950s, with the audience joining in at times. He was accompanied on the piano by John Holland, the organist at Okehampton Methodist Church, who also gave two organ solos. Sisters Helen and Alison Palmer, accompanied by their mother Beryl, entertained the audience with their violin playing. Roger Partridge told some amusing stories while popular folk band 'On the Fiddle' got everyone's toes tapping. An appeal was made by Rev Anne Curnow for ShelterBox and the collection amounted to £750. Rosalind Bunkum thanked the artists for a wonderful evening and invited everyone to stay for supper, which was provided by the Callington and Gunnislake Methodist Circuit Choir who organised the event.
