SOUTH East Cornwall MP Sheryll Murray showed she was game for a laugh when she took part in the Ice Bucket Challenge, the charity fundraising craze which began in America but is now sweeping the UK. Mrs Murray braced herself with a big grin before being swamped with ice and water from an extra large tub outside her constituency office in Liskeard on Tuesday afternoon. Shrieking and laughing, the MP, who was soaked from head to foot gave the thumbs-up after her icy shock. The tub was lifted over her head by Paul Pascoe, of Seasons Cafe next door to Mrs Murray's office, and saltash.net student Jack Wray, who is working in her office during the summer break. Mrs Murray, who was nominated for the challenge by Clair Greenham, gave her donation to Macmillan Nurses in memory of her god-daughter Sarah Radley, who died of a brain tumour last week. The craze involves Facebook and Twitter users challenging friends to have a bucket of ice water thrown over their heads which must be videoed and posted online as proof. They nominate others to take part and send a donation to charity the Motor Neurone Disease, which has already reached £2m or Macmillan Cancer Support. The MP has nominated Liskeard mayor Phil Seeva, Cornwall councillor Benedicte Bay and former Callington portreeve Jeremy Gist to take up the challenge. Liskeard resident Simon (Shaky) Stephens, became an overnight internet sensation after doing his challenge dressed in a banana costume, goggles and flippers! So far more than 160,000 people have shared the video of his hilarious antics on Facebook. Builder Simon, 39, was filmed by his mates Phil Morford and Rob Potter taking the icy soaking at his own hands. Wearing the banana outfit, left over from a stag night, he dived head first into a barrel full of ice and water, falling over before clambering out. Since Sunday, Shaky's soaking has spread around the world and his Facebook page has received almost 32,000 likes. The number of views on You Tube has topped more than 10,000 and the video viewings on Facebook have reached almost 2,000. He has also received more than 300 Facebook friend requests from the fans of 'banana man' from all over the world. Shaky was nominated for the challenge by Alex McKay, landlord of Liskeard pub The Albion. 'Alex knows I was one of the instigators who painted the outside of his pub bright pink while he was away on holiday celebrating his 50th birthday, so I think this was his way of getting his own back,' said Shaky. 'I can't believe how famous I am just for jumping into a barrel of water; it's crazy but all good fun. 'I'm really chuffed because all of this is for good causes, so I would say join in and please give generously.' Shaky donated to Motor Neurone Disease, and the now famous banana suit is up for grabs on Ebay for the same charity. 'It only cost me £12.99 and it's already reached more than £30 with loads of watchers,' he said.
