Motorists using the A38 through South East Cornwall face additional difficulties over the coming months as two more major roadwork schemes get under way. Road users already face delays resulting from construction of the Dobwalls bypass and now drivers planning to use the A38 between Bodmin Parkway and Dobwalls are being warned that the route will be subject to overnight closures until Easter and that a 30mph limit is to be imposed. At Tideford the Highways Agency has announced the start of 18 months of work in the area of the St Germans junction. In the Tideford area contractors will be carrying out geotechnical investigations, tree clearance and rock face stabilisation work from the end of this month. Additional speed restrictions, convoy working, layby closures and other restrictions are anticipated between the Trerulefoot roundabout and the St Germans junction and will be signposted at the relevant times. The £3.5m project to strengthen 800 metres of embankment through the Glynn Valley, just east of Bodmin Parkway railway station, begins on Monday. The work involves strengthening embankments to prevent the carriageway subsiding and will be carried out mostly overnight to keep disruption to roadusers to a minimum. The Highways Agency says that when work is taking place, it will be necessary to close the A38 for nine kilometres (five miles) in both directions between Dobwalls and Bodmin Parkway. Most of the work will take place between 8pm and 6am the following day, with occasional weekend closures. A 30mph limit will be in place through the works for the safety of drivers and the workforce. Laybys along the area of works will be closed throughout the project and it may be necessary to install temporary traffic lights during certain phases of the work. A clearly signed diversion route will be in operation when the road is closed.
