MONKEY Sanctuary Trust keeper, Rachel Hevesi, is running for the monkeys. On September 26 she is joining the Great North Run from Gateshead to South Shields. The half marathon will test Rachel's stamina and hopefully raise money for the Trust which works in this country and South America. Eighteen months ago the Trust was featured in a documentary about its work helping victims of the pet trade in Chile. The Trust is also campaigning to end the pet trade in the UK and whenever possible offers sanctuary to victims here. Extending the Rescue Centre in Cornwall will mean the Trust can rescue and give a new life to monkeys currently suffering in isolated and inadequate conditions. Rachel's inspiration is the monkeys like Peppy who arrived at the Sanctuary at Looe a scared, neurotic and sad character who sat in a corner grinding his teeth and plucking fur from his arms and legs. He now amazes his carers with his intelligence and antics and he leads his new monkey friends, whether playing or grooming and resting. Rachel is looking for sponsorship and donating is easy via the internet at http://www.justgiving.com/themonkeysanctuarytrust">www.justgiving.com/themonkeysanctuarytrust. You can also send donations via The Monkey Sanctuary Trust, The Monkey Sanctuary, Looe, PL13 1NZ
