This match against a combined Saltash 9/10s team proved very exciting and profitable for Liskeard/Looe. It provided them with their first victory this season and instilled confidence in all the team.

Jake Francis started the scoring with an excellent try, running all the way from the halfway line. He went on to add another in the first half and one in the second bringing his personal total to three. Jake also put in some excellent tackles.

Liam Moran scored two tries in the first half and he was hardly ever out of the action. Jan Spiering captain for this match played an inspired game, tackling well, running with the ball and then making it available. Josh Bryant ran with the ball making up a lot of ground on several occasions and was really unlucky not to score a try being tackled feet from the line.

Stuart Gundry put in one vital tackle to stop Saltash scoring and then nothing could stop him. John Burns keeps improving and he made some excellent runs forward. At half-time Liskeard led 20-0. The crowd were buzzing with anticipation of a victory and the team's spirits were high.

Saltash came out a different side in the second half and quickly scored two tries but Liskeard came back with new man Harry Hillman playing his first game (and only one training session) scoring two excellent tries. Chris Bowden played a good game feeling confident to run with the ball and making good ground. Rosy Reid played well and put in some good tackles.

Final score Lisk/Looe 35, Saltash 10. Although there was some good individual performances the coach felt that the whole team had won the match and therefore he awarded the whole team Man of the match award.

Liskeard/Looe update

Saltash was the venue on Sunday for Liskeard/Looe U-9s supersquad. With Saltash short of players it was agreed to let them play under 9s, 10s and under 11s against our super youngsters. With one of the Saltash players weighing in at twice the weight of most of our team a tough match was anticipated. From the start the heavier players did their best to bulldoze their way through our supersquad. How does the saying go - the bigger they are, etc.

Liskeard stuck to their game and Dean Tandy scored a super try, followed quickly by another from Nick Haley, Good passing and tackling was paying off. At half time Liskeard coaches ask for more of the same and another try followed with James Burke using his speed to run through and score.

Although Saltash did raise their game in the second half and score it was obvious the result was going to the away team. More and more pressure and harder tackles finally began to drive the opposition back into their own half. More tries followed from Nick Haley and a super effort from Sam Goodman who had to ride several hard tackles before putting the ball down in the corner. The teams ongoing success is due to their good teamwork with a little touch of skill added to make them worthy of the eleventh win of the season. Final score 25 points to 5 in Liskeard's favour.

Sundays team Sam Goodman, Robert Fowlie, Kennan Fowlie, James Burke, Nick Haley, Jawad Micklaszewize, Dean Tandy, Phil Trevelyan, Josh Taylor, Caden Hitchens and Nicky Mears. Training next week Sunday 11.00am.
