Pressure is being put on developers to replant Callington's memorial trees in time for spring.

Caradon councillor Andrew Long said at a town council meeting on Tuesday that every effort was being made to replace the trees after they were cut down last month to make way for a new housing development on Launceston Road.

Cllr Long said: 'I have been in regular contact with planning officers who are putting pressure on developers to implement the replanting in March.

'Once this has been confirmed, I hope to liaise with churches and the Royal British Legion for a dedication ceremony and a plaque so that no-one is left in any doubt as to what the trees represent.'

The trees were originally planted as a memorial to local servicemen who died in World War One.
