WHILE it's true that not many Team GBR selectors were ever spotted considering players for the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow in four years' time, nevertheless the competitors of Looe Bowling Club enjoyed a successful season full of camaraderie and good sport.

And that feel-good factor spilled over to their annual presentation night at the Hannafore Point Hotel, West Looe, where competitors at a well-supported function could often be found in deep conversation about the one that fell short or drifted wide.

The club plays in Cornwall and East Cornwall League competitions as well as having

a full inter-club 'fri-endly' fixture list and many 'domestic' competitions, including the annual East Looe v. West Looe challenge in which bragging rights this summer went to the West.

The players may not have always have been as successful as they would have wished but most visitors concurred that the plush greens at Hannafore and their picturesque views of St George's Island and Looe Bay make for one of the best venues around; even Sir Francis Drake would have agreed on that one!

Presentations were made by the incoming officers: Presicent Marilyn Berry; men's skipper John Yeo, and ladies' captain Rachel Carson.

Glasses were raised to a successful and convivial season and there was a toast, too, for success in 2011 when the season re-opens in April.

Everything is pointing to a bright future for the Hannafore club and new members are always welcome.

Secretary John Hickman was singled out for special praise for his unstinting

efforts behind the scenes and while all the trophy winners were applauded there were extra accolades for Brian Solt, pairing with Paddy Southern, who won his first-ever sporting award when he received the Kingaby Cup from president Marilyn Berry.
