Members of the public battled to save a dolphin which had beached itself at Hannafore.
After the woman who first spotted the dolphin called for help from the British Divers Marine Live Rescue (BDMLR) team, a group of people spent around an hour and a half keeping the animal upright in the shallow water, but it was unable to refloat itself.
Unforturnately the story had a sad ending with the decision to put the dolphin to sleep.
There’ll be more from those who were there on the day - plus an insight into some of the reasons that dolphins and whales strand themselves on the shore, and a guide to what you should do if you spot it happening - in this week’s Cornish Times, out on Friday.
