LOOE has missed out on a National Lottery award that would have improved part of the town. The town was part of The Harbours Project with with Newlyn, Falmouth, Newquay and Portreath. It sought to help rejuvenate Cornish harbours through the National Lottery Funds: The People's Millions competition. Through the scheme, a new promenade for East Looe seafront would have been built – something Looe mayor Ron Overd feels would have helped improve the town. 'I am extremely disappointed,' he said. 'I am sure it would have made a large difference not only to the working side of Looe, with improvements to the fish quay, but also to the social part of the town.' Mr Overd added that he was concerned to see grant funding not being spread evenly around the county. 'It always seems that large grant funding seems to drift towards the west of Cornwall,' he said. 'We are part of Cornwall, an important part, and we should be treated as such. We are not part of Plymouth.' The Eden Project was one of the six projects shortlisted for the scheme and will receive a development grant up to a maximum of £500,000 to further progress and develop their application. The winning venture will be chosen by the public in a nationwide TV vote.
