Town mayor John Crago has been formally re- elected for a second consecutive year. He addressed the meeting, saying: 'It has been a privilege and honour to serve as mayor and I will do the best I can for the town in the next 12 months.' He thanked deputy mayor Mike Pearn and his wife Val for their support, as well as his chaplain Father Brian Anderson. He also paid tribute to the town caretakers who look after the town hall, keeping it in pristine condition. The mayor announced that his charity fund for Torpoint Archives and St James Church Bell Fund currently stood at £1,636.93, with more still to come. His charities for the coming 12 months will be the premature baby unit at Derriford Hospital and local charities within Torpoint. The Civic Service will be held on Sunday, September 28, and the Mayor's Ball will be on February 14, 2009.
