Saltash Town Council met when David Carter chaired it for the last time as mayor. The new mayor, Joe Ellison, will be elected on June 9. Sgt Andy Dunstan, in his police report, gave the latest crime figures as two attempted burglaries, 16 thefts from motor vehicles and 25 cases of damage to motor vehicles. Overall, there were 154 reported crimes compared to 166 over the same period last year. The mayor said he was sorry that Marjorie Schikowsky had resigned as a Caradon councillor and paid tribute to her years of service, but he said he was glad she would continue as a Saltash town councillor. Cllr Peter Stephens said that a recent problem when an ambulance could not find a Saltash address had been discussed at Caradon council. He said that he thought more pressure should be put on developers to name roads when estates were built, which would help all emergency services. The ambulance service has offered to meet the town council to discuss the problem. Meanwhile, a letter from MP Colin Breed stated that he had received more than 1,000 letters from members of the public about changes to the local train timetables and said he hoped to meet with the Minister for Transport soon.
