A Liskeard man has been named the BBC’s Young Dancer of 2019.

Max Revell wowed judges during three televised performances, one of which had been specially commissioned for the competition and had been created by leading choreographer Dickson Mbi.

During the final, which was broadcast on BBC2, Max also performed a self-choreographed solo as well as a duet with Tom Hughes Lloyd.

Among the judges was Emma Gladstone, artistic director and chief executive of Dance Umbrella. She said: ‘Max’s final solo was the most exceptional piece of dance and it was for that reason that he was the winner for us.’

Max, 20, has danced since he was nine years old and as a teenager, took part in break dancing competitions and battles all around the country.

He currently studies at the Northern School of Contemporary Dance - and says that his goal is to continue battling and competing and to perform in contemporary and hip hop theatre shows around the world.
