A ‘REMARKABLE matriarch’ celebrated her 105th birthday with her family and friends.

Marjorie Boundy was born Marjorie Langman in Callington on March 23, 1913. She was the youngest of six children born to a master baker.

Langman’s Bakery, famous for its saffron buns, was at the heart of Callington throughout most of the 20th century, and Marjorie was born in the house above the bakery, the bells ringing out from St Mary’s Church just opposite to mark the happy event.

Around 40 family members and friends attended an open house at the home of her eldest son John, to wish Marjorie many happy returns.

Among the good wishes sent by post was a telegram from the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, and a personal card and message from the Queen.

‘This remarkable matriarch has an extended family including nine grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren,’ said son-in-law, Terry Bolt.

‘She is an amazing lady and is very much loved by all.’
