A rallying call has been put out by Liskeard town council for the local community to turn out today to cheer a contingent from 42 Commando Royal Marines as they march through the town centre. They will be assembling at Morrisons car park at around 4pm before forming up to march through Liskeard at approximately 4.30pm. Earlier in the afternoon the marines will be marching through Menheniot between 2pm and 3pm, when the villagers will be clapping them on their way. The Plymouth-based marines are undertaking a 75-mile speed march, over four days from Plymouth to Falmouth, as their participation in the 1664 Challenge to celebrate the 350th anniversary of the famous military corps. The challenge is raising money for war-injured Royal Marines and their families. Mayor Phil Seeva will be on The Parade and is hoping many townspeople of all ages will encourage the marines as they march through. Afterwards the marines will be served refreshment at The Barley Sheaf pub.
