A 20-year-old local man has been remanded in custody by magistrates charged with murder following an incident on Par Beach on Saturday evening.

Dean Morton Ashley Granger-Allen, of no fixed address but whose family is understood to live in the St Austell area, is alleged to have murdered 28-year-old Jody David Crang, of Par.

No application for bail was made on his behalf and the court in Bodmin on Tuesday adjourned the case to Truro Crown Court on October 31 for a plea and case management hearing. As he was led from the dock, Granger-Allen's mother Mrs Karen Granger-Allen shouted to him: 'I love you – I'll be there for you.'

A police spokesman said officers had been called to the scene of a 'violent altercation' at about 9.30pm on Saturday where they found a man suffering serious head injuries. He was taken to the Royal Cornwall Hospital at Treliske, Truro, by ambulance but died a short time later.

Granger-Allen was arrested shortly after the incident, followed early on Sunday morning by a 16-year-old girl who cannot be named for legal reasons. She has since been released on bail until August 15.
