FOUR major retail outlets are interested in opening a new store in Torpoint.

The names of the stores have not been revealed by Caradon District Council but yesterday councillors agreed to appoint a consultant to hold talks with them.

At a council cabinet meeting, members agreed that the consultant would look to get the best price for a piece of land at Thanckes Park in the town.

The land is expected to be sold for a retail development to the successful bidder.

Meanwhile, Caradon's Planning Committee will be meeting on Wednesday to discuss the options for two other retail developments in the district.

The agenda includes a revised application for a Sainsbury's store in Saltash and a delayed application for an Aldi store in Liskeard.

The meeting will start at 6pm in the Council Chamber at Luxtowe House, Liskeard.
