Looe's ninth Honoured Burgess was presented with a gift and certificate by mayor Ron Overd at a ceremony in the Guildhall last Friday. Madame Marie Therese Legac has been visiting Looe for many years as part of the town's twinning arrangements with Quiberon in Brittany, France, where she is a teacher of English at the College St Ann. It was agreed that she should be made an Honoured Burgess of Looe – a title which goes back to Elizabethan times – in recognition of her efforts on behalf of the two communities. The honour was revived some years ago by the town council to recognise people who have made an outstanding contribution to local life, and Madame Legac is the ninth to be honoured in this way.
