Lux Park Leisure Centre was the venue on Sunday, Feb 13 for the first ever fully affiliated Football League on the still relatively new outdoor artificial turf pitch.

It saw 12 teams with a cross section of ages playing, those youthful young 16-year-olds through to the veterans of the area to 40+.

The league will run over the next 21 weeks and involves all 12 teams playing every Sunday night. Professional referees affiliate the games and the Cornish Football Association sanctions the league.

The 12 teams involved are as follows: DDFC (Doddering Doughnuts), Barley Sheaf, Peoples Front of Judea, Sports Hall Wanderers, Davies Turner Air Cargo, Dilbert's Kickers, Dragons, Stonegate, Pensilva Veterans, The Ploughboy, Safeway United and Lux Park Leisure Centre FC.

The first night saw some excellent skills in the first game with the Doddering Doughnuts from Dobwalls causing an upset and beating off the challenge from the young side - Dilbert's Kickers - 2-0.

Two other games showed the same score-line with the Ploughboy beating Stonegate and Sports Hall Wanderers beating Safeway United. The veterans of Pensilva beat The Peoples Front of Judea 1-0 whilst the Barley Sheaf and Davies Turner Air Cargo played out an exciting 0-0 draw. The result of the night though undoubtably went to the home team of Lux Park with an excellent 5-0 thrashing of Dragons.

If anyone is interested in playing in the leagues they will unfortunately have to wait until next season now but should contact Scott Brown at Lux Park Leisure Centre on 01579 342544.
