AN 11-year-old who’s been running every day without fail this month to support his young cousin will complete a fundraising challenge later today.

Luke Campbell has run a mile in his home town of Torpoint each day of May to raise funds for the Tuberous Sclerosis Association (TSA) and so far he has brought in an amazing £1330, having started out with a target of just £300.

Luke’s cousin Harvey, six, was diagnosed with Tuberous Sclerosis Complex when he was a toddler. The rare genetic disease affects every part of the body, causing non-cancerous tumours to grow on vital organs such as the kidneys, lungs, liver and skin, and leading to epilepsy and other related disorders.

Luke is great friends with his cousin Harvey and so earlier this year, he decided he wanted to fundraise for the organisation, the Tuberous Sclerosis Association, that supports families affected by the condition. He said: “I’m running to raise awareness of TSC and to raise funds towards the charity, and especially for my little cousin Harvey who has TSC and epilepsy. Also it’s for every family and person out there living with TSC. “I want to raise as much money as I can for my little cousin to spread the awareness. Harvey suffers mainly with epilepsy and seizures everyday. He is such a happy and loving boy. “I feel very passionate about this. The money raised will go towards helping families with children or adults living with this disease. Please share and help me reach this target and support my little cousin who lives with this every day.”

Luke has been running every single day of May come rain or shine – and there’s been a lot of rain! says his proud Nanny Sharon.

She’s encouraging people to come out along the route in Torpoint at 6pm today when Luke will be doing his last run of the month. Harvey is set to join him for the final part of the event.

“Luke has been incredible, “ she said, “he’s run in all weathers, and some days he’s come home from netball at school, done football training, and then gone out on his run. I’ve told him he’s my hero.”

Luke’s route takes him up Goad Avenue, through the Trevithick estate and back via Trelawney Rise to home.

“Harvey is obsessed with flags,” Sharon continued, “and so we have been making lots of flags and banners for today.”

“We’re hoping there’s going to be people on the route later cheering Luke and Harvey on.”To find out more and support Luke and the Tuberous Sclerosis Association visit https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/lynda-o-neill
