SOUTH WEST ONE
Caradon 3
Bodmin A 1
Leon Farrow got his side off to a perfect start, opening the Caradon account with a slicing shot from an almost impossible angle.
The hosts dealt effectively with the sporadic attacks from the Bodmin side, Euan Jeffries standing firm at the back with 'keeper Toby Riddle holding the last line of defence with some fine saves. Despite taking the initiative for much of the first half, Caradon struggled to impact further and went into the break with just a one-goal advantage.
The second period saw some improved passing play and provided more opportunities in front of the Bodmin goal.
With the pressure building, it was only a matter of time before Caradon engineered a short corner. A well-practiced routine saw the injection to Paul Luiten, slipped across the D to Neil Spencer who then returned it to the opposite side of the D, wrong-footing the goalkeeper for Farrow to steer a clean strike to the back of the net. The visitors were not deflated, though, and dug deep, only to incur a yellow card for infringement.
They did pull one back after a short corner was stopped on the line by Steve Walsh, but his clearance only made it to the top of the D, where a Bodmin attacker was lurking to smash home.
Ian Chard went close for Caradon before Luiten made it three late on when a late penalty flick was awarded against John Green – taking up his new position in the Bodmin back-line.
Caradon travel to United Services Hockey Club tomorrow before the half-way stage of the season.
