Sheila's School of Dancing recently held their annual dance show and presentation of awards night at Killigarth Holiday Manor, before an audience of more than 400 family and friends, and guests the Mayor and Mayoress of Looe, Dave and Annette Bryan.

Over 130 pupils took part ranging in age from just two and a half years to teenagers and adults. The event was compered by young local star Louise Munt from Millendreath, who is at present studying drama and dance at Plymouth, and is a past pupil of the dancing school. DJ for the evening was Killigarth's resident entertainer Stuart Gallaway.

The dance acts included disco, Latin American and rock'n'roll, and the costumes, make up and hair were all organised by some of the mums. Each act was a blaze of colour and also taking part were residents of Polyne Residential Home. The show ended with the older girls dancing 'It's Raining Men' and Louise sang Flash Dance .

Sheila Brock, owner of the school thanked Louise and presented her with flowers, and also thanked the pupils and parents for their hard work, and Peter and Gary Stevens, owners of Killigarth and their staff for all their help in staging the show. Several mums were presented with chocolates for their special hard work during the year making costumes. The mayor and mayoress presented Sheila's staff with thank you gifts.

The most looked forward to part of the evening was the announcement of the award winners for 1999, a closely guarded secret until the night, and heralded with a drum roll.

The coveted 'dancer of the year' award, donated by Barry and Lynn Leary of Press on Linen Services, West Looe, went to Lucy Caffrey from the teenagers' classes, who received a shield and sash.
