CHILDREN in the village of Crafthole will have a modern play park before too long thanks to the efforts of local fundraisers and councillors.
Sheviock Parish Council is one of the organisations in South East Cornwall set to benefit from the latest round of Awards for All funding from the Big Lottery.
A £10,000 grant will help provide play equipment in Crafthole, where the limited facilities in the small play area are in need of updating.
Volunteers who formed the Friends of Crafthole Park group have also raised more than £2,000 towards the project. Facilities such as keep fit equipment and barbecues are part of the plans, said parish council chair Dr Chris Kennedy.
‘The park will be in an existing green space in Sheviock Road but we have negotiated with the Antony Estate for the area to be quadrupled in size,’ said Dr Kennedy.
‘The Antony Estate has very kindly helped us and has agreed to a 40-year lease, which is what has enabled us to apply for grant funding.’
Also receiving Awards for All funding is Torpoint Community College, which will use its £10,000 grant to create links between the college and the wider community in order to improve job and training prospects for former students.
Meanwhile in Looe, the Greenwood Music Project has received almost £10,000 for its therapeutic indoor and outdoor woodwork and music workshops. And in Lewannick, the village hall will receive £3,090 for new tables and display boards.
