A lorry and crane was needed to return a Brunel plaque to Saltash. The Brunel plaque – which was unveiled on Saltash railway station for the 100th anniversary of the Royal Albert Bridge but was then moved to the other side of the river in Plymouth – was back in the town on Friday . A huge lorry carrying the plaque embedded in two- and-three-quarter tons of granite reversed down lower Fore Street and a crane lowered it onto a plinth at Huntley Gardens. The plaque now faces Old Ferry Road and is almost under the Royal Albert Bridge. It took four workers from Network Rail to move the plaque into position, watched by members of Saltash Heritage and Saltash Waterside Residents' Assocation. Supervisor Garry Wallace, who played a major part in bringing the plaque back to Saltash, said he was delighted it has been returned in time for the Brunel celebrations in April.
