Looe is working on a ‘Plan B’ to salvage a live music event for the town.
Looe Music Festival has been cancelled at short notice after the charity behind the event went bust.
The festival had been due to take place over three days from September 21.
Looe Town Council has called a special meeting for all pubs, campsites, hoteliers and businesses affected by the news.
Mayor Armand Toms said that the town was ‘deeply shocked and saddened’ by the cancellation - but that Looe would pull together to work out an alternative.
‘We were expecting to welcome thousands of visitors to the town over the three days of the festival, many of whom have already booked and paid for accommodation, travel, and time off work,’ he said.
‘Many local people and businesses have come to rely on this late summer revenue from the festival to see them through the winter months so we just can’t sit back and do nothing.’
A special meeting will be held on Wednesday (September 5) at Looe’s Millpool Centre starting at 6pm, for all those businesses involved with the festival.
‘We hope to work together to work out a Plan B and save at least some of the three-day festivities,’ said Cllr Toms.
‘Looe always pulls together in times of crisis and we hope this time will be no different.’
