Clock works

EAST Looe Trustees wish to assure residents that there is nothing wrong with the clock on the Guildhall tower. Part of the mechanism has been sent to the original manufacturers for refurbishment to ensure it keeps to its usual impeccable time keeping.

A Trust spokesperson said the clock should be back to working order within the next two to three weeks.

Ryder Project

British Airways steward, Lloyd Edwards, who moved to Polperro just over a year ago, has entered into the community by joining the Ryder Project Group.

He has already enjoyed helping to row the old former Looe lifeboat and has just completed an oil painting of her.

It is to be sold to raise funds for the Project, but it is hoped that copies of the painting can be firstly transposed on to mugs.

These would also be sold in local outlets for the Ryder fund.

Lloyd did the painting, called 'Then and Now', during breaks in long haul flights, mainly in hotel rooms in San Francisco and Singapore.

World beater

off again

POLPERRO'S own world record beater, Peter Baldacchino, is off again on a fundraising venture which begins in June.

Peter, together with Tony Palmer and Geoff West, all three of them being disabled, went on a run on a Horizon Mayan mobility scooter from Land's End to John O' Groats and back in 2000 when they were recognised by the Guinness World Records for their amazing feat which covered 1,880 miles in 27 days.

Next they went to the Isle of Man and did the TT course, started by Sir Norman Wisdom OBE. Both events raised in excess of £1,500 for a performing arts group for the disabled known as the 'Oh No's'.

The intrepid group's next venture will be riding the North Sea Cycle Route after their visit to the National Motability Roadshow, again using a Horizon Mayan Scotter again loaned by Horizon of Falmouth. Ford will be loaning a van as they did for the first run. They set off on June 24.

The trio will be riding for approx 3,500 miles through England, Scotland, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Germany and the Netherlands.

The charities to be collected for this year will be Plymouth Shopmobility and The Blue Badge Association.

Peter says they need as many sponsors as they can get, a company for the fuel would be nice as they will be using approximately £1,500 worth. Cheques can be sent to Peter at Penlea, Landaviddy Lane, Polperro, PL 13 2RT and should be made out to "wWwwBroadening Our Horizons".

Arts show in Polperro

MEMBERS of the Looe Arts and Crafts Society, all artists from S E Cornwall, will be presenting their Easter Exhibition in Polperro Village Hall from Saturday, March 23 - Sunday April 7. It will be open each day from 10am-6pm and admission is free.

Third Jazz Festival

THE Looe Jazz Festival has a new title and new dates for this year's event which will be the third since it was first organised by Dave Skentelbery.

To be known as the 'Looe Jazz Festival Widening Horizons', it moves from its spring spot to November 1, 2, 3. Dave, who is being helped by Rosie Leach and Elizabeth Leoppart, an American jazz singer now a local resident, says the change in dates is to avoid clashing with other festivals earlier in the year around the South West. This year's event will also include modern as well as the more traditional New Orleans Jazz, for a broader appeal to those who enjoy the music.

'We are looking for sponsorship to help put on the event which will be excellent for the town' he said. 'Being held in the autumn it will hopefully help to extend the tourist season' he said.

Anyone wishing to offer help or sponsorship should contact Dave on 01503 262117.

Vandalism

LITTER bins on East Looe Seafront were thrown into the river on Saturday evening by vandals. Three bins were spotted and recovered by members of East Looe Town Trust the following morning.

Jim's flowers

MR Jim Belcher, a member of Looe In Bloom has also been voluntarily helping East Looe Town Trust with their display in the rose garden by the Guildhall.

He has been responsible for the beautiful spring display of bulbs and Trustees have been so delighted by his community spirit that they have given him control of the Trust's floral budget for this year.

'We would like to thank him publicly for his work' said a spokesperson. 'He has been doing an excellent job'.
