Surprise cheque
for singers
The annual Christmas carols afternoon organised by East Looe Town Trust, was held in the Guildhall on Sunday afternoon, with a packed attendance. Trust staff served mincepies and cream.
Chairman Mrs Glynis Gibson made a surprise presentation at the end of the proceedings to Mr Danny Gill, musical director of the Looe Valley Singers who provided the entertainment. It was in the form of a cheque for £250 from the trust to help the choir's fundraising efforts to purchase a portable stage.
The trust felt this would be an appreciative way of showing their thanks for the choir's attendances at the event over many years and for being such excellent ambassadors for Looe.

100th customer at
computer centre
LOOE Town Forum reports that the Community IT Centre, now into its third month, has already achieved its 100th user, a tremendous response considering the facility is presently only open three days a week.
Beryl Tregear, who is formulating the bids for Objective One and RDA funding on behalf of the forum, says everyone is delighted everything is going so well. It is now hoped the bids will be successful to allow the IT Centre, presently housed in Lisandra House, to move to its own, more accessible premises, in the Polkirt Arcade.
This will then not only be an IT training centre, but also a new business centre. People wishing to use the present facilities, open on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 10am-4pm, should book by phoning 01503 265947.
Work to start on
new ice plants
THE Harbour Commissioners have instructed work on two new ice plants for the fish market to begin on January 7.
The project, costing in the region of £300,000, is hoping to secure a grant of £145,000 from DEFRA, which has already been approved in principle.
Local contractors will be carrying out the work in two stages, replacing the old ice plants, at the north and south ends of the market, one at a time, to cause as little disruption to the working of the fish quay as possible.
Longstanding
trustee resigns
EAST Looe Town Trust has announced with regret the resignation of long-term trustee George Pengelly who first became a member in 1983.
Mr Pengelly informed fellow trustees of his decision at the end of November. A spokesperson said he was a leading member of the works committee, and his knowledge, as a carpenter by trade, was invaluable to the trust, where he would be greatly missed.
