Golden wedding celebrations

LOOE couple Anne and John Codman celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a big party of family and friends at the Masonic Hall, Looe.

A live band was also provided at the party, which played until late.

Anne and John were married in the village of Wansford, near Peterborough, which is now in the county of Cambridgeshire. They both lived in Wansford, went to school there, and grew up together.

When they were married Anne was a revenue accountant for the London and North Eastern Railway at Peterborough.

Eventually they moved to Spalding where they brought up their children and John took a job as a driving instructor, later setting up his own driving school. They first moved to Looe 23 years ago when they came on holiday. They liked the town so much they never went back home. John took a job at the rifle range at HMS Raleigh, but had to retire aged 57 through ill health. Anne was manageress of the Cornish Linen shop in Looe until l994 when she moved to help her daughter Lyn at Press On Linen Service, West Looe.

Among the guests who visited them were Looe mayor and mayoress, Wally and Kate Scarah, who are great friends of theirs.

Medieval theme for school fayre

LOOE Primary School is to hold a Medieval Fayre on October 6 from 2-4pm at which The Courteneye Household (those taking part in year four living history) will be joining guests.

Those attending will also be able to see the traction trebuchet, combat display, cannon firing and many stalls. It is also hoped that as many as possible will dress up and join in to create the medieval atmosphere.

Donations of raffle prizes, groceries, cakes and plants are being sought to help raise funds for the school. These can be taken to the front office prior to October 6, with all offers greatly appreciated.

School funds have already been boosted by £36 raised at a Bake and Take and £78 raised by Looe Valley Singers. The friends of Looe primary would like to thank all for their support.
