Magnificent sum

raised at fair

RIVERSIDE United Church was beautifully decorated in blue and yellow to provide the setting for the annual spring fayre, which raised the magnificent sum of £1, 135.

The first customers to arrive were members of a coach party who stopped off in Looe on their way back to Burnham on Trent, who thoroughly enjoyed purchasing home made goods and delicacies to take home with them.

As usual the stalls were attractive and business was brisk, with many locals in attendance. A new idea was to set out the popular book stall upstairs which gave customers more room to browse.

The sum eventually raised was due to the hard work beforehand of church members and friends and the unfailing goodwill and generosity of the good people of Looe.

A nautical

flavour

A quiz night with a nautical flavour, organised by Looe and Polperro Chamber of Commerce, is being held at the Harbour Moon Restaurant (Redders), on Thursday, May 17, at 7pm.

The quiz, comprised by Tony (you are the weakest link) White, Polperro's very own popular postmaster, is open to anyone who would like to take part in a friendly, fun evening. Teams of four will compete for a bottle of bubbly, and each competitor will be asked for £1 entry. The Chamber says even if you don't have a team come along anyway!

The popular car boot sales are taking place on the Millpool this Sunday, May 13, and the following Sunday, May 20.

U3A's hold

quiz night

LOOE Valley U3A recently held a very successful quiz night at St Martin's Hall, and were joined by members of Looe and Liskeard U3A groups. Ninety contestants took part, the quiz master duties being ably undertaken by Barbara Jacob, chair of Looe Valley, who thanked everyone for attending.

A supper supplied by Emiles was much enjoyed to round off the event.

An active

summer

REV Linda Smith is inviting all those interested to attend a meeting in St Martin's Church Hall, on Monday next, May 14, at 7pm, to make arrangements for the running of the activity week during the school summer holidays.

She says volunteers do not have commit to the whole week, but anything that people can offer in the way of help will be very welcome.
