Lions present

a spring ball

AFTER the success of their millennium ball, the Lions Club of Looe will be presenting their next big event on March 31, when Terry Lightfoot and his band, play live at Killigarth Manor.

Terry regularly plays with his band around the world and they have also recorded over 30 albums, as well as having some of them featured on BBC Radio two.

The evening is one of the Lion's biggest fundraisers of the winter season and tickets at £21.75 are now on sale from any Lions member and the Shell shop, East Looe or call 01503 265690 or 272425.

Fashion for Terry

MARIANNE Fashions of West Looe and Saltash are organising a grand fashion show which takes place tonight (Friday), February 23, at the Waterfront Complex, Millendreath, at 7.30pm for 8pm.

The event is to raise funds to assist Looe's Citizen of the Year Terry Wright, who has the honour of representing Great Britain at the World Transplant Games, and the Looe lifeboat.

Skulduggery at

the school

SKULDUGGERY and red herrings will be in abundance at the special Murder Mystery evening at Looe Community School, on Saturday, March 10, at 7.30pm, which is a fundraiser towards the quest for arts college status.

The event is being organised by the Friends of the School who will act out a classic 'who done it' - Murder at the Manor - by Chris McDermott, and then run a quiz to weed out the culprit. Teams of 4-6 are invited to take part in this family fun evening, at £5 per team. Refreshments will include a bar.

Millpool Project talks with school head

THERE is to be a special meeting of the Millpool Project Development Group at Luxstowe Council Chamber, Liskeard, tomorrow (Saturday), February 24, at 11am.

The guest speaker will be Helga Turner, head of Looe Community school, who will outline the planned bid for arts college status. The Group is interested in this as the plan is also for community use.

Since there have been planning problems at the Millpool and the withdrawal of further Caradon financial support for the Group's hoped for plans for an arts and community centre, plus concerns about the flood plain and widespread local oppostion to building in the area, the Group says it now needs to discuss its future. They feel Mrs Turner may have some useful information and ideas which may help them determine their future plans.

Backing the

superstore plan

THE Cornish Times would like to point out that John Pennington-Hare is an advocate for, and not against (as reported in the February 9 issue), outline planning permission for a superstore on Looe's Millpool car park.

Mr Pennington-Hare was, in fact, one of two speakers at a meeting, held at Caradon's council chamber, who spoke in favour of the superstore plan by Nuthurst Properties Ltd, and is a long-time campaigner for a new supermarket in Looe.
