Singers retire

at carol concert

BOUQUETS were presented at East Looe Town Trust's annual Christmas carol concert in the Guildhall on Sunday, to two long serving members of the Looe Valley Singers.

Octogenarians Mrs Margaret Gardner and Mrs Marjorie Symonds who were founder members, had made the concert their last performance with the Singers and they were thanked for everything they had done. The choir also presented a gift to their musical director Danny Gill.

The hall was packed to capacity for this enjoyable event with everyone joining in the carols, the Trust saying it was the best concert ever. Refreshments of mince pies and cream were served afterwards by Carol Day and Margaret Durkin.

In giving the vote of thanks, the chairman, Mr Don Webb, presented the choir with a donation on behalf of the Trust.

Sally won the TV

THE members of ACHE report a very successful coffee morning held recently at the Guildhall, East Looe, when the main raffle prize, was a 14" colour television, donated by Chris Sandy of Polperro. The winner was Mrs Sally Curtis, also of Polperro.

Members thank all those who attended and were generous with their support, with special thanks to the helpers and those who provided some wonderful Christmas gifts.

Chief Limpet Fred Leese presided and welcomed a Transatlantic Limpet before calling on Limpet Ken to move a warmly supported vote of thanks to all who had made the gathering so enjoyable.

The New Year lunch will be held back until January 31.

Thanks to

the Wheatleys

AGE Concern, Looe have expressed their gratitude to Mr and Mrs K Wheatley of Polvellan Manor, West Looe, for the use of their premises for the Luncheon Club and for the supply of meals at a reasonable cost.

Age Concern have enjoyed the friendship and hospitality of the proprietors of Polvellan for several months and are appreciative of their efforts and kindness shown to the senior citizens. It is hoped the Club can be continued monthly in the New Year.

Major Teddy

Kennington

MANY will be saddened to hear of the death of Major Edward Eric Kennington at his home, after a short illness bravely borne. Known as Teddy to everyone, he had retired to Looe in the early 1970's where he led an extremely active life, being part of West Looe Town Trust and being involved with many local charities.

During the Second World War Major Kennington served with the Poona Horse, working as Air Liaison Officer with the RAF, particularly with the 34 and 113 Squadrons at Palel in Burma. After the war he was posted to RAF Keevil in Wiltshire and then left the services for a period to farm in Pelynt.

In the early 1950's he returned to the services and was stationed at RAF Brampton where he continued his work as a photographic interpreter in the Intelligence Corps. He was posted to Hong Kong, Singapore and Nigeria.

Christingle's for

the children

THERE was a good attendance at St Martin's Parish Church, East Looe, for the Christingle Service which raised £100 for the Church of England Children's Society.

The Rector, Rev Brian McQuillen officiated, assisted by the curate, Rev Linda Smith, and organist Christine Lewis accompanied the singing of carols.

The Christingle mean 'Christ's Light' with the orange representing the world, the four sticks are the seasons of the year, the fruit and sweets are God's love in providing the fruits of the earth, the red ribbon depicts the Blood of Christ surrounding the world and the lighted candle symbolises Jesus Christ as the Light of the World.
