Neighbours' sale

for Clic

TWO Nomansland neighbours, Barbara Reynolds and Angela Burt, are organising a sale in aid of CLIC to take place at Riverside United Church, West Looe, on Saturday, November 11, at 2pm.

Barbara, a committee member of Morval Vintage Rally, decided to try and hold an event after meeting Sandra Prescott from Bodmin, a rally supporter and hardworking fundraiser for Clic.

The money raised from the sale will be to help towards the continual funding needed to help maintain the four bed unit for children being treated for cancer at Treliske, Truro, and for the Derriford appeal which is hoping to provide a special family accommodation unit for use while children are at the hospital. The ladies say there are already children from the Looe and Liskeard area receiving treatment at the Treliske Unit.

The stalls will include jumble and better clothes, plants, cakes, cream teas, and an excellent raffle, the prizes all having been donated.

Ryder quiz

raised £200

THE long awaited results from the '2000 Ryder Lifeboat One Quid Quiz' run this summer in aid of the Ryder Project, have been released, revealing local winners. More than £200 was raised, and by popular request another such quiz is to be run starting from Easter.

In joint first on 99 points each were Glenda Taper and Mr W F Hall, both of Polperro. There were six entries placed third with 98 points from J P Marshall, Carol and Julie Courtis, The Three Little Gems (all Polperro), Cliff Muspratt (Blackpool) and Anthony Pitts (Oldham).

The Ryder, Looe's former old lifeboat, has now been taken to Toms Boatyard, Polruan for the winter, before returning to her mooring in the harbour during the summer. In 2002 she celebrates her centenary.

The Project has reported a most successful season, with more crew members, though more are always welcome, and an excellent time has been had learning how to sail the vessel. The Ryder has appeared at many events including the Looe Festival of the Sea and the Fowey Classics where she received much attention.

Anyone wishing to join the Ryder Project should contact the secretary, Henry Hall, on 01503 272213. Although the committee have compiled much of the history of the Ryder they are still keen to receive information and anecdotes about her past crew members. Those with information should contact Tony White at Polperro Post Office.

'Remember Them'

past and present

THE Mayor, Councillor Ron Overd, has expressed a wish that during the forthcoming annual Remembrance-tide, people give some time to reflect on past servicemen and women and the sacrifices they made during the two World Wars and other conflicts. However, he says it is also important that the service personnel of today are remembered at this time. 'They are doing their bit for our country, defending our freedom and the liberties and freedoms of people in countries all over the world' he said.

The Looe Branch of the Royal British Legion will be holding a short ceremony at the Looe War Memorial on Armistice Day, Saturday November 11, commencing at 10.45 am. The start and end of the two minutes silence will be signalled by a (starter) cannon shot from the vicinity of the memorial at 11.00 am.

All are welcome to attend this short ceremony and should go direct to the war memorial. It is hoped that the people, traders and businesses in the town will stop and observe the two minutes silence. The Looe Civic Remembrance Day procession and service will take place at the war memorial at 10.30 am on Sunday, November 12. All those taking part in wreath laying or the procession, should be at the Rose Garden by no later than 10.15am.
