Free day at Guildhall Museum
Curator of The Old Guildhall Museum in East Looe, Mrs Jeanne Dingle, says the doors will be open for visitors on Good Friday (April 21), from 11.30am-4.30pm. The museum will continue to open each day up until Spring Bank Holiday Monday, May 1, when it will be taking part in the national one day free admissions scheme. Admission on other days will be adults £1 and children 50p.
Mrs Dingle says there are many interesting exhibits and the ancient building itself with its long history, including the dungeons, for visitors to enjoy.
Works of art at Ebenezer
Nine Society Members of the East Cornwall Society of Artists are holding an Exhibition from tomorrow (Saturday) April 15 to Sunday April 30 at Ebenezer Gallery, Polperro, 10.30am to 6.30pm daily. There will be a display of original paintings, pottery, traditional stained glass. Any works purchased may be taken at the time of sale.
Exhibitors are: Trevor and Zoë Bedford, John Fletcher, Reñee Nash, Roy and Rose-Marie Stringfellow, Pat Stubbs, Anne Trezies, James Wolfe.
Commodore follows in father's footsteps
A moment of history was made in the annals of Looe Sailing Club at their recent annual meetingwhen Steve Sargent was unanimously elected Commodore. Steve follows in the footsteps of his father Graham who was Commodore some years ago.
Retiring Commodore Brian Carvey reported on a succesful year for the club which has run two Championships along with a full season of club sailing. Brian looked forward to seeing a large fleet of Redwings in the bay this summer in readiness for the Redwing Championships in August, when Bud Coote will defend his trophy in home waters.
Brian thanked the retiring committee members for their efforts, and everybody who had helped to make the job of Commodore easier over the past two years.
Offices elected were: President - Brian Carvey, Commodore - Steve Sargent, Vice Commodore - Paul Sedgbeer, Rear Commodores - Barry and Janet Darlington, Treasurer - Sally Jaycock and Secretary - Des Hocking.
The new sailing season will get underway with a briefing and registration evening in the Clubhouse on Saturday April 8, followed by the first race on Saturday April15.
Come to the Forum
The April meeting of Looe Town Forum takes place at Looe Community School on Tuesday next (18th) at 7pm.
All local residents are welcome to attend and take part in debates.
New gallery in Polperro
A new art gallery is to open in Polperro tomorrow (Saturday) at 12 noon. To be known as the Peak Rock Gallery it will be situated on the quayside and will be a welcome addition to the village's many attractions.
Owned and run by local resident and recent emigre from Kfent, Colin McCrae, the gallery's main thrust is not historical, but instead looks forward into the 21st century with the majority of works displayed being digitally manipulated pictures. Also on show will be a selection of the traditional works of local artists.
Rowers' 100 Club
Winners of the Looe Rowing 100 Club's April draw were: Alison Bishop (4), Carolyn Chapman (27) and Sheila Portman (94).

THe main species up for auction at Looe Fish Market this week from Monday-Thursday April 10-13 were: weights in kilos, Mon - lemons (2400), plaice (800), whiting (1,500), cuttle (1,300), pilchards (100), scallops (105 doz). Tues - lemons (550), plaice (280), whiting (330), cuttle (400). Weds - lemons (1,000), plaice (500), whiting (650), cuttle (600), mackerel (400), pilchards (60). Thurs - lemons (1,000), whiting (400), cuttle (300), pollack (50), pouting (250), scallops (320 doz).
