Cakes and chips for school funds

The busy members of the Friends of Looe Primary School are planning many fundraising events throughout the year the next being another of the popular 'Bake and Take's', to take place on Thursday next, January 27 from 2.30pm. The last such event raised £65.

On Friday, February 11, a fish and quiz night is to be held in the upper restaurant of Kellys, Fore Street, East Looe. There are only 50 tickets available so anyone wishing to go should contact members of the PTA or phone Mrs Sullivan on (01503) 263370.

The fish and chips have been donated by Mr and Mrs Roberts and judging by previous quiz nights it should be a lively event. Teams are up to 6 and tickets are £4.

No change at East Trust

At the January meeting of East Looe Town Trust, Mr Donald Webb and Mr John Simmons MBE, were unanimously re-elected as chairman and vice chairman respectively. The vacancy for a new trustee was filled by Mr Philip Gibson who was co-opted after a secret ballot, from a list of five applicants.

Teachers want their crown back

After suffering the indignity last year of losing their coveted crown at the annual keenly contested quiz night to none other than a crowd of 'Seasiders', the teachers at Looe Community School are going all out with their most talented team to date to restore their honours. They have been studying very hard.

The 'Friends' are inviting parents, students, friends, families, clubs and pubs to 'beat the teachers at their own game' at the quiz in the school hall on Friday next, January 28 at 7.30pm, when a fun night out for all the family, and not demanding too much brain power, is assured. There is a maximum of six players per team at £5 per team.

Euro MP to visit

MEP Giles Chichester is to visit Looe in early May at the invitation of the Looe and Polperro District Chamber of Trade and Commerce, when representatives from the fishing, farming and tourism industries in the Caradon area will be present, as well as members of other Chambers.

Ample time is to be made available for questions, and the date is to be published as soon as it is finalised.

Rowing draw

Looe Rowing Club's 100 Club draw on January 4, resulted in a win for John Moore (77). Runners up were Alison Bishop (4) and Joyce Clements (71).

Trust talk for U3A

The January meeting of Looe and District U3A was well attended, those present being treated to a talk by Jeremy Mason of The National Trust on "Housekeeping in Georgian Britain", with some unusual slides and a wealth of most amazing detail.

He was thanked for his interesting and comprehensive presentation, members having been rivetted by his descriptions of home life in the 18th century.
