LOOE is once more bracing itself to welcome thousands of revellers into the town for the traditional New Year's Eve celebrations, which are placed in the top three venues countrywide as the best place to be.
However, the mayor, councillor Ron Overd, says as well as wishing all the people of Looe and the visitors who will be out partying in the streets, a very happy celebration, and a peaceful New Year, he also asks for common sense to prevail. 'I appeal to people to be orderly to allow everyone to have a good time, especially those out with young families' he said, 'and that everyone will make the effort to use the bins provided throughout the town and seafront, in which to place empty bottles and cans.
The town council is supplying £1,500 worth of fireworks to announce the year 2001 with a bang on the seafront at midnight, and just before the spectacle, a large bonfire is to be lit on the beach, courtesy of the East Looe Town Trust, and organised by councillor Colin Shore.
The pubs are all getting ready for the onslaught, but as this year's celebrations fall on a Sunday, the licensing restrictions on the selling of alcohol do not extend beyond 12.30am.
