Members of Looe Town Council's planning sub committee have recommended for refusal the application by Nuthurst Developments Ltd to build a supermarket on the Millpool Car Park, which was a unanimous decision.

Councillors' reasons for refusal included the loss of valuable car parking space, an adverse visual impact on the attractive river frontage, the destruction of the children's play area, and the possible increase of traffic congestion.

However, committee chairman, councillor Frances Kenshole, said the decision was not about whether the council is for or against a superstore for Looe, it was solely based on the area in question which all councillors present agreed was not suitable. The application now goes before Caradon which has not yet set a date for the planning application.
