LOOE School is to appeal to the local community and businesses throughout the South West to sponsor it to the tune of £50,000 to help with their bid to become an arts specialist college.

They are applying to the Government's Department of Funding Education and Employment for the new status, which if granted, could mean the school would gain an extra £100,000. They would then be able to build a drama/dance studio/theatre on the school site, which would also be for the use of the whole community.

Benefits

In addition the Government would then also give the school another £70,000 per year to help promote performing arts not only in the school itself, but also in the area's school cluster, and organisations such as local drama groups.

On Friday, December 1, the school is holding a public meeting to raise awareness of what the potential benefits of becoming an arts college would mean.

It is hoped there will be a large attendance of parents and friends of the school, as well as business colleagues, art groups, and the town's councillors, trustees and commissioners.

Performance

During the meeting there will be a performance by school students together with young people from local groups.

The school has also just applied to become affiliated to the Technology Colleges Trust.

If accepted the ICT computer facilities will be greatly enhanced.
