The port of Looe hopes to have a dry dock in place for the fishing fleet by next winter, situated near the old sardine factory on the West of the River. At present the boats travel to nearby Polruan to carry out necessary repairs.
The Harbour Board's proposals for the £25,000 scheme has received approval in principal from the Key Funding agency who now await detailed plans and costings before the final approval is given.
Key Funding was set up to support the development of the economic and social structure in the community in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly using Objective 5B money from Europe. Schemes must not cost more than £25,000 and 90 per cent of the eligible product cost is covered.
Project
The Key Fund has also fully approved a grant for the permanent floodlighting of Looe Harbour, the Commissioners working together with Looe Town Forum on this project.
The Forum has also been informed that a further application for Key Funding for the Looe Information Pamphlet has also been successful.
Over the past year the Forum has raised approximately £56,000 in funding for various town projects.
