I largely endorse Mr Maslen's support for our local CAB. I feel, however, that he is unwise to refer in so critical a way to the councillors 'own financial problems'.
In doing so I feel he weakens his own argument and also the best interests of the service that we both cherish.
The CAB must know that while councillors may be listening to pleas for more cash with one ear, the other is likely to be turned to the whisper of an all seeing auditor. Will they let their hearts rule their heads? Only if they can afford to!
The CAB management can be trusted to impress with a presentation.
They have the creativity, the artistry... at the Liskeard branch these things abound.
The difficulty though is that it is a one off event. In this day and age long term funding, like credibility, must be earned week in week out.
To this positive end I encourage the Liskeard branch to return to the five day opening that was so proudly achieved at their old premises.
Also on a Friday, why not restore the regular specimen enquiry column that was once such an excellent feature of the 'liveliest letters page in Cornwall'?
This was useful publicity, truly useful.....for the Cornish Times, for the community, and for the Bureaux.
