A young, local photographer is working hard to bring to light the issues with the past and current housing crisis in Cornwall. Kieran Lewis, 21 from Looe is creating a project focusing on the solutions and causes of the crisis, his aim is to speak to local people who are or have been affected.

In his first week of shooting Kieran had met with three local people who had been impacted. Ex Geevor tin miner, Colin McClary, who spoke about the development of tourism within Cornwall throughout the years, Stephen Chidgey who owns one of the best rated holiday cottages in Tregonetha and a community union group called Acorn. The goal is to interview individuals and produce a detailed collective of differing opinions and stories.

He said: “I want to make this project so that I can represent the unheard people who are suffering in the crisis”

“I want to achieve producing a body of work that represents every sector of the housing crisis in Cornwall; from the young families who can’t get affordable housing, to the millionaires with multiple properties, I want everyone voice to be heard so that I can make a fair representation of the issue; the causes, and the solutions.”

Throughout his time at university, Kieran has focused his projects on issues within Cornwall such as the fishing and clay industry. This project was inspired by the idea that the issue is misinterpreted in the media and therefore more people need to be made aware.

The project will be finalised in the form of a hard back book consisting of both pictures and words. The book will available to buy online through his website with all of the profits sent to charities combatting homelessness in Cornwall, such as St Petrocs.

Once completed in June 2022 the book will be available to buy at: https://kieran.photos
