A Cornish harvest custom going back many centuries will be celebrated later today (Saturday Sep 1).
‘Crying the Neck’ is a ceremony to give thanks for a good harvest, where the last sheaf of barley or corn is held aloft and prayers are offered for the coming year’s crops.
At Bolitho Farm near Liskeard, the Old Cornwall Society and farmer James Moon will be hosting the Crying the Neck with singing, readings in Cornish and in English, and saffron buns.
All are welcome to the event which will start at 6.30pm.
